About Tugcare
Pictured: M/V "Sea Air"
My name is Jim Knutsen, I was born in Anacortes, Washington State in October 1957, the third son to Donald E. and Marian R. Knutsen. My grandfather, Elmer Knutsen had the "Sea Air" hull and deck built by Moran Brothers Co. Shipbuilders on Orcas Island in 1957. She was then towed to Anacortes to be completed by my grandfather and his two sons, (my dad and uncle). Once completed we spent many years cruising the San Juan Islands, Canadian Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound areas. Growing up boating and experiencing all the beauty we are surrounded by made it natural for me to pursue working in the boat industry for the majority of my adult life.
After graduating from Anacortes High School, I went to work for ABC Charters doing repairs and maintenance during the summer charter season, then outfitting new boats with electronics and other mechanical systems during the off season.
This experience eventually led me to Nordic Tugs, Inc. working on the assembly line of the 37' model. After 2 years I accepted a Project manager role on the 42' and 52' models, overseeing all aspects of the build, up to completion. The last 3 years with the company, I accepted the Engineering manager role, which was a great honor for me. Now that my wife Terry and I are retired we plan to spend more time enjoying our children, grandchildren and boating.

52' Nordic Tug
This is one of eight 52' models built during our time at Nordic Tugs.
Please note: We are now retired and do not take on new boat projects. These pictures are for sharing bits of our experience only.
